There may be nothing more peaceful or emotive than photographing a loving hug. I search for these moments constantly throughout a wedding day. To me, this perfectly freezes time and captures the love these two sisters share, and represents exactly what is meaningful about a wedding for a family.

"Pictures exist on a mental level that may be coincedent with the depictive level-what the picture is showing- but does not mirror it. The mental level elaborates, refines, and embellishes our perceptions of the depictive level. The mental level of a photograph provides a framework for the mental images we construct of (and for) the picture" -Stephen Shore

Of course, in every engagement session many "formal" or classic portraits are made. Often used for NYT announcements, websites, or invitations. But, I always encourage people to just have fun, and let their personalities or relationship be documented. These two were super nerdy, super goofy, and had a blast.
I don't know if this was a guest, a passerby, or an Arlington town employee...but they seemed to be awaiting the bride and groom's arrival in a manner that suited the DMV, or a government position. For some reason there seemed to be a bit of humor in this image, and I felt it matched the setting of the town hall wedding well.
I always giggle, and can't help but snap a photo when I see a classic multitasking parent. Over the years, many iterations of mom or dad holding wine, beer (multiple beers!), while rocking a little one have been been captured. Coincidentally, these two hail from Alaska (my home state) and made the epic journey to support Justine and Marc's recent wedding along the Charles at the Museum of industry and innovation.
Recently I found myself standing at this moment, overlooking all of the peaceful moving parts of Lucy and Charley's reception. It was a perfectly chilly evening, with the cool blue tones outside paring perfectly with the slow jazz, warm candle light, and fresh coffee being enjoyed by all. Memories are fleeting. We never know what will bring us back to a moment, and while this image isn't inherently shocking or complex in anyway, I feel that it sets the scene for room number 9. The room where Daniela laughed with her friends and cried with her mom while dressing for the wedding day. Maybe it will take her back to anxiety, nerves, excitement and creaking floors of the Inn near her celebration at the Path of Life Sculpture Garden
Some of my own favorite and distinct memories of my wedding came from friends. I love documenting how weddings bring other couples together. Serving to remind each of us how special our partner is, and slowing life down. I loved how "in the moment", and unaware of the world these two were.
